I was searching for a computer cord earlier today and came across this little device, which changes "male" plugs into "female" and vice versa.  No idea why they call it a "gender changer" rather than a "sex changer."  Clearly, no sociologists were consulted.

If you were gifted with a gender changer for people, would you use it?  On yourself or others?  How often?  What exactly would it do?

My partner and I both have mentioned wishing at times that we could switch our anatomical parts for some days/nights (I'm a pansexual female and they are a bi-curious male)

honestly I would like it if half of men have vaginas so I could date them... and give them boobs. Basically I want hairy super masculine women.

well, since it is a gender changer, and not a sex changer, it wouldn't be able to change anyone's anatomical sex organs. i would point this device straight at every source of media i could, and at congress. i think people are just fine how they are, it is the media's fault we have these preconceptions of what gender is. it we didn't think women should be "this way" and men should be "that way," then it wouldn't matter if you had a penis, or a vagina. you could still be whoever you felt you were, without feeling you had the wrong body.

If people address me as male, fine. If people identify me as female, no problem. I don't feel the need to change my gender, though I do recognize both femme and male privileges over being simply butch. I am who I am, you can like it or love it. ;)

I've spent the last ten minutes trying to come up with a response to this. I would probably try it.

I think the word gender is used more often out of a discomfort with the word "sex". Would I use it? Only as an educational device, to teach empathy.

The manufacturer is wrong. You can't change gender. Gender is "what's between the ears" it is sex that can be changed - "what is below the neck".

I agree with nefarious about the terminology, since the parts are always referred to as "male" and "female", and also generally refer to them as "mating". I did a little googling, and came across this presumptive statement on Wikipedia, which tickled me a lot:
"Stickle bricks, using interlocking plastic protrusions, are effectively genderless."
And there is also some straight-faced technical talk of "hermaphroditic" connexions.
As for would I use one? Speaking as someone in the middle of a gender transition, I'd rather have the correct hardware retrofitted than have to use an adaptor. But I don't need my gender adapted anyway, just my hardware. Adaptors can be very handy in the field, though.

Actually, I would be happy if I could use a similar device to make men experience full-fetal PMS. On a regular basis. Idk if it would promote empathy, but it would sure serve up some justice :)

I'd get my "gender" changed in a minute. If it was changing external appearances and genitalia I'd change my body into the male body I want. If it was changing gender identities then I'd turn my identity female so I wouldn't have to worry about so much crap. Being FTM sucks so much. :(

Honestly, I don't even want to get out of bed most days. I'm afraid to take the plunge and start T because I'm afraid I'll wind up looking like a particularly hairy dwarf woman (or maybe a hobbit), but I'm not a woman and being so obviously feminine (even when I bind and dress male and so on) sucks. Everything sucks tbh.
