So Many Freaking Media Outlets.

I spent several hours working (at day job stuff) this morning, then signed onto Twitter, only to discover that in the intervening hours, I had missed some crucial (okay, maybe not crucial, but interesting) stuff.  Then I signed onto Tumblr, which I don't usually use but have been experimenting with lately.  More missed stuff.  And don't even get me started on Facebook.

Additionally, when I got my latest issue of Curve in the mail (I'm a longtime reader), it felt a little outdated.  I'm not sure if this had to do with layout, format, or content.  This led me to wonder what BW readers like to read (well, besides Butch Wonders, obviously).  Whether or not you ID as butch, I'd love it if you could take this poll.  (And if you check "other," please tell me what the "other" is.)

I'd also be interested to know what's changed for you in the last 2-3 years re: how you get your queer media news and content.  Personally, I rely more on specialized sites, as well as particular people (e.g., on FB and Twitter), and less on national news sites (except NPR, which I listen to almost daily).  I read blogs more than I used to, and read magazines less.  How about you?  And: do you access queer-related content differently from how you access other media content?

I use almost exclusively online content for news. Google News for basic daily news, tuned to exclude sports and entertainment, and include foreign sources. Queer news sources (advocate.com, queerty.com, transadvocate.com, bilerico, IFGE, unicornbooty.com...) for queer news. Though recently, I've gotten more organized in blog reading (Google Reader), and blogs are getting to be a more important source of news - you learn who's reliable and who's not. I'm kinda picky about sources -- for news I want facts, not opinions. That said, I also read a lot of blogs/FB Pages for opinions.

Maybe it's irresponsible of me but the older I get the less I worry about queer content, per se. I like sort of knowing what's going on but it's all sort of distant to me now. I did a LOT of protesting (jail time, paddy wagons) when I was 16-22 ish. I was in Queer Nation Chicago, and worked security for many a pride parade across the USA. Was really involved, you know? But it seems like that was how we got our news, from one another.
Now, I've got a partner, I'm happy with her, we get treated really well here in this town, I sort of feel like I can let others do the work now. I got tired I guess. I don't really go hunting for queer news that much now. The gays allowed in the military thing came too late for me, as I dropped out of the military due to being gay and not wanting persecution. But you know, we did it, it's here, for now, a lot of things have come to fruition. I SHOULD stay on top of it and keep fighting the fight but life is short,
And I've done a lot of work on it in the past, and now I'm more worried about the authors of memoirs that talk about gender fluidity and lines of sexual attraction that are blurred and mixed, like Stephen Elliot and Linda Yuknovitch, etc.
So, to make a long story short:
TL;DR: If some GLBT news comes my way, yay, if not, I don't really go looking for it anymore. My bad.
