The one thing you rarely see these days is the pocket watch, carried, as they were meant to be, in the waistcoat...watch pocket. The watch is in the left pocket, the gold chain runs across to the right hand pocket, where it is attached to the waistcoat and you have to watch fob hanging out that pocket.

The fobs could be almost anything, but a faceted semi-precious stone was common. Often a birthstone. About the size of a quarter, in a gold frame. I could not help but picture those looking at some of the waistcoat wearers. Particularly, the young lady in the charcoal pinstripe number with the white tie. A gold chain and fob would be quite striking with her ensemble. Very classy. Alas, Very Expensive, if you want an early 20th century original. I'm not sure if they make modern versions. It would be worth checking out.

I wore a tie to a work function (holiday party) for the first time today. I was so nervous! It was a big deal to me, because I'm newly 'the boss' and the only obviously masculine woman at my company, let alone in leadership. But no one bagged on me for it. It was nice that everyone seemed so welcoming and complimentary. Maybe that'll give me confidence to try more...bow tie, anyone?

I'm so thankful for this blog (and for so many on your blog roll). Knowing there are others like me out there, even if I don't know any IRL, is so comforting!
